Mamapedia – The Business of Birthing

Mamapedia, formerly Mamasource, has a great post from blogger Rachael Heiner, who watched Ricki Lake’s Film, The Business of Being Born. In the post, it says she doesn’t know if she’ll have more babies, but her bio shows she’s due in May 2010. It sounds like she’ll be asking a lot of questions from those caring for her. :)

Mamapedia can be a wonderful resource when you can’t get to (or don’t have the option to attend) in-person meetings like BirthChat, La Leche League, or other support groups. It’s an online forum for asking questions and sharing advice. What online resources do you utilize to stay connected to other moms?

Look, it’s a baby-shooter!

To spark an interesting conversation, or for a laugh (especially after the sad nature of the last post), read the Man-Nurse Diaries blog Being a Man in the Delivery Room.

The sentence, “I think you can drive this down the street and shoot babies at people” was especially amusing!

Near-death by unnecesarean

While we usually try to steer clear of the horror stories about childbirth, this one was too poignant to pass up. I appreciated that the blogger reiterates the importance of understanding that a cesarean carries real risks – it’s an abdominal surgery, after all.

FREE Journey Into Motherhood Online – WOW!

What a great opportunity to read some inspiring stories without having to buy the book. Of course, you SHOULD buy the book and monetarily support the author if you like what you see!

ICAN’s Pam Udy on Bellies to Birthcast

The President of the International Cesarean Awareness Network does a great interview on VBAC, HBAC, and cesarean in general. Listen or read it here.

She mentions near the end that ICAN now has forums on their website. Please check them out if you’re seeking support or can share a positive birth story.

Honest mother blog

I happened upon this blog post tonight and it fit so well into a discussion I had with a few other women at BirthChat this evening, I had to share.

Birth: Read. Think. Do.

I am so glad that she has found blogging. I am not the only one to tell her she needs to write this stuff down for us. No nonsense information about birth here.

Please, if you are having a baby, do what she suggests. Read! Think! Do! Don’t just give up! Don’t just think about birth when you get there. You plan your route on your vacation, you plan your wedding, you even plan your career, please, take some time to prepare for the birth of your baby. It is time that you won’t regret spending.
